Quakes shake North Cotabato, Ilocos Sur

MANILA, Philippines -- Two separate mild quakes shook the provinces of North Cotabato and Ilocos Sur Wednesday evening, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

At least two aftershocks were recorded following the shallow magnitude 5.3 quake that struck North Cotabato at 5:51 p.m.

The quake had a depth of 9 kilometers, with its epicenter at 6 kilometers northeast of Carmen.

Intensity 5 was felt in Carmen; Intensity 3 in Kidapawan City, Davao City, Cotabato City, Cagayan de Oro City, Makilala, Kabacan, Pikit and Matalam, Libungan, North Cotabato, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao;

Intensity 2 in General Santos City, Magpet and M'lang, President Roxas, North Cotabato; Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao; Libona, Bukidnon; Butuan City; Iligan City.
No damage was expected, Phivolcs said.

Phivolcs said the aftershocks were a magnitude 2.9 tremor at 7:31 p.m. and a magnitude 3 at 7:32 p.m.

Meanwhile, a magnitude 4.6 quake struck 78 kilometers southwest of Santa Catalina, Ilocos Sur at 7:11 p.m.

Intensity 2 was felt in Baguio City and Vigan, Ilocos Sur.
